Storm-Damaged Homes in Missouri: Regulators Ask Insurers to Delay Cancellations and Non-Renewals for Good-Faith Repairs

Share:

MO| Missouri Insurance Bulletin 26-09 announces that, because the State of Emergency related to the 2025 storm and tornado events will expire on May 31, 2026 and not be extended, prior Bulletins 25-10 and 25-11 requesting insurers to halt cancellations and non-renewals of storm‑damaged residential properties are rescinded effective June 1, 2026, but the Department now requests that property and casualty insurers writing homeowners, dwelling and condominium master policies continue to allow additional time before cancelling or non-renewing coverage when policyholders are making good‑faith efforts to complete storm‑related repairs, recognizing that delays may stem from contractor, supply, or claim issues; in exchange, the Department offers a regulatory safe harbor for insurers making case-by-case exceptions (or broader applications) to filed underwriting standards, while reminding them to fully document their underwriting files, and states that this Bulletin remains in effect until expressly rescinded, with questions directed to the Market Regulation Division.
