New Jersey Travel Insurance Act Takes Effect April 18, 2026: What Producers and Retailers Need to Know

Share:

NJ| New Jersey Bulletin No. 26-02 provides guidance on the Travel Insurance Act (N.J.S.A. 17:46E-1 to -9), effective April 18, 2026, which establishes a comprehensive regulatory framework for selling travel insurance to New Jersey residents. The Act requires producer licensing for individuals and entities selling, soliciting, or negotiating travel insurance or acting as travel administrators, with Travel Insurance Producers responsible for designating a responsible producer, maintaining a register of travel retailers, ensuring employee training on insurance types and ethical sales practices, and overseeing all insurance-related conduct of registered travel retailers and their representatives.

Travel retailers operating under a producer’s license must provide prospective purchasers with approved written materials disclosing insurer contact information, clarifying that travel insurance purchase is optional, and explaining that unlicensed retailers can only provide general coverage descriptions without technical advice or evaluation of existing coverage.
