MI: Reciprocal Exchange POA Signature Requirement

Share:

Michigan DIFS Bulletin 2026-22-INS reminds reciprocal exchanges that the Uniform Power of Attorney Act (UPAA), effective July 1, 2024, requires all powers of attorney — including those appointing an attorney-in-fact — to be executed in a signed writing, with no exception allowing unsigned appointments. Reciprocal exchanges with existing DIFS filings indicating unsigned POAs are effective must submit updated filings by November 30, 2026. Failure to comply may result in administrative action. This creates a concrete filing deadline and compliance obligation for reciprocal insurers operating in Michigan.
