Michigan Adjusts Fire Insurance Escrow Limit Effective July 1, 2026

MI| Michigan DIFS Bulletin 2026-16-INS updates the annual fire insurance maximum escrow amount under Section 2227 of the Michigan Insurance Code for municipalities participating in the fire insurance withholding program, which permits eligible municipalities to escrow 25% of fire insurance settlements on covered real property losses, subject to statutory criteria and a CPI-based cap for residential property that has applied since July 1, 2024. For the period July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the maximum amount of a residential fire insurance settlement or judgment that may be subject to the 25% escrow is set at $25,090, replacing the prior cap of $24,096 for July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026 and earlier listed caps of $24,000 (July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025), $15,520 (January 1, 2024–June 30, 2024), and $15,009 (January 1, 2023–December 31, 2023); this bulletin supersedes Bulletin 2025-14-INS.
