NC DOI Bulletin: Health Plans Must Allow Emergency Rx Refills During State of Emergency

NC| Bulletin No. 26-B-02, from the North Carolina Department of Insurance Life & Health Division, notifies all entities licensed under Chapter 58 that, following Governor Stein’s Executive Order No. 31 declaring a state of emergency for a projected January 24 winter storm, health benefit plans (including the State Health Plan and stand‑alone prescription plans) must comply with statutory requirements under NCGS 58‑3‑228 to allow coverage for extra prescription medications during the emergency. This authorization for extra prescriptions applies to qualifying prescription requests made within 29 days of the bulletin’s issuance, unless the Commissioner extends it.
