Share

WA| Emergency Order 25-01, issued by the Washington Insurance Commissioner, temporarily requires all insurers and regulated entities transacting property and automobile insurance in areas affected by the December 2025 atmospheric river and winter weather event to extend premium payment grace periods, waive related fees, and halt cancellations and most nonrenewals to protect consumers disrupted by the disaster between December 15, 2025, and February 12, 2026.

  • All property and auto insurers must provide at least a 45-day grace period for nonpayment of premium and waive late and reinstatement fees, and may not cancel policies for nonpayment during the order period unless the insured specifically requests cancellation.WA-wsr-26-01-094-emergency-rule-25-01.pdf
  • The usual 45-day nonrenewal notice requirement is suspended, and insurers instead must give no less than 120 days’ notice of nonrenewal for affected property and auto policies, with the order effective statewide in impacted areas through February 12, 2026, under RCW 48.02.060(4).WA-wsr-26-01-094-emergency-rule-25-01.pdf
