AR| The Arkansas Insurance Department issued Bulletin No. 15-2025 to update the HIV testing protocol for insurers, replacing the obsolete Western blot confirmatory test with the Centers for Disease Control’s recommended sequence: initial screening using a 4th-generation HIV-1/2 antigen-antibody immunoassay, followed by an HIV-1/HIV-2 antibody differentiation immunoassay if reactive, and finally, an HIV-1 nucleic acid test (NAT) if results are negative or indeterminate. This change, effective immediately, aims to ensure earlier and more accurate detection while maintaining compliance with nondiscriminatory standards under Arkansas Code 23 CAR 101, with confirmation from the Arkansas Department of Health that the updated protocol is acceptable.
